Lahinch, County Clare

Lahinch (sometimes referred to as Lehinch) is located on the west coast of Ireland in County Clare. It was quite unexpected. After driving through the green rolling hills of County Tipperary, we ended up at a ‘beach’ town.’ We didn’t see that one coming.

Needless to say, we were a bit stunned. The town was busy since it was a sunny, warm day; the first since our arrival. We found a place to pull off and I took a few photos. As I was looking down on a beach area I knew that we needed to head that direction.

So, we meandered through town and found a beach-front car park … and parked. There were families playing in the water and sun. Better yet, there were numerous surfers taking advantage of the waves.  The word ‘stunned’ keeps coming to mind ….

We walked through the crowds and did a little shopping. Our primary goal was a Celtic t-shirt shop featuring original artwork. Sara found a pamphlet for it in Ennis which is what lead us to the west coast.  We also managed to find a few other shops.

The afternoon was beginning to turn into evening and since we were already on the west coast … we headed north to the Cliffs of Moher. Just a few miles up the road … it only emphasized Ireland’s extremes. We went from sandy beaches to sheer cliffs in only a matter of twenty minutes.
